Eddie Joe: Anutha Cup of Coffee
"starbucks is worried about losing touch with their customers. i always thought their coffee was over rated anyway. consumer reports does also. they rated mcdonalds dark roast a better cup of coffee for part of the cost. i would rather grind fresh roast beans and enjoy the whole pot of coffee. i have kicked back at pow wows with a thermos of my own coffee many times. marketing is a great ploy. it sells us on a idea that something is the best for us.
i get a kick out of the commercials on t.v. that push magic pills. they have several that if taken will make us lose weight in no time and be all buffed up. wouldnt it be nice if life were so simple. they must be selling, because they are shown over and over. someone is buying into that. or believe there is an easy way. maybe its just that people want to take the easy road.
i see where they are retiring the chief illiniwek mascot after 81 years. protests have stated that the chief 'portrayed a degrading image of american indians'. though i felt there are more pressing issues that face indians, i agree with them retiring the mascot. i seen the 'chief' doing his dance on television and thought that looked totally ridiculous. costner dancing around the fire in dances with wolves was just as dumb. i doubt that racial stereotyping will end with the mascots being retired. maybe they ought to do something about the fakes running around the country passing themselves off as medicinemen or spiritual leaders now.
i seen some geese flying over this morning. i was reminded of what an old man here said one time. he said watch those geese. one will lead for awhile, then another will take over and lead, then another. he said indians were the same way. thats true. someone is always trying to take over the lead. they miss the point. the strongest leader we have is us acting in unity. and we are quite a ways from that. nobody remembers the best leader we ever had. i wonder what kind of force that indian people could be if we acted together.
at any rate, i wonder how close spring is now that the geese are moving. but then many of them dont even leave anymore."
