Four Winds sails into Chicago, burbs

Four Winds sails into Chicago, burbs

NEW BUFFALO | "Two months after opening in southwestern Michigan, Four Winds Casino Resort is reaching into the Chicago market for customers.

A bus service got underway earlier this month, shuttling gamblers from South Side and south suburban communities, to the casino near New Buffalo.

Pick-up stops include Chinatown and the villages of Crestwood, Homewood and Countryside -- areas typically part of the Illinois and Northwest Indiana casino markets, and towns targeted by Illinois officials as ripe for growth of that state's casino industry.

Four Winds "possibly sees an untapped niche there that would gamble at Four Winds if they had an easier way of getting there," said Ed Feigenbaum, whose Indiana Gaming Insight tracks Indiana's casino industry."

This morning...

This morning my wife (She's an Ojibwe!) said 'If the Prairie Band Potawatomi elects Eddie Mitchell for Tribal Chairperson, you will be the only tribe in the United States that has a tribal chairperson that can both 'marry and bury'." In the context she was using that phrase was that: Eddie performs traditional marriage ceremonies, and buries our people in our traditional ceremonies.

I had three votes for Eddie in my household (my two sons are enrolled tribal members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation also!) that went out yesterday in the mail!

Letter of Support

"I am going to vote for Eddie Joe Mitchell for Tribal Chairperson. I am going to vote for him because he is well spoken, educated, and has been a leader in our religion for the past thirty years. I believe Eddie is the only one of the candidates that will stand up to that faction on the reservation that has been intimidating our tribal leaders for the past few years, forcing them to resign through the threat of petitions. This has to stop or our votes will never count anymore."

The Ballots are in the Mail!

As far as I know the Ballots for Chairperson are going out today and with it is the up or down vote on the per cap increase. And tomorrow is the Tribal Council Candidate Forum on the rez, that will run from 9 a.m. till noon.

It seems to me if a candidate wanted to reach more tribal members, he or she would write an article about the forum, so all those undecided tribal members, both OFF and ON the rez, that couldn’t make it to the forum, would have some kind of idea what kind of questions were asked, what kind of answers were given, and thus be more informed on who they are voting for!

According to comments in the tribal paper: The Potawatomi off the rez are Greedy!

Logo I read in the tribal paper the per capita referendum is going out on September 7th, the Potawatomi off the rez get to vote on something that effects all tribal members and we are being called greedy! That is insulting to all Potawatomi that live off the rez!

Let's see the Potawatomi on the rez get all the new houses, a new health care center, all the land though greed, the good paying jobs with the tribe and at the casino, they have programs on the rez that help only certain tribal members and certain family members on the rez, they have tribal council members that get sixty thousand a year and don't bother to even go to work, these same tribal council members go on countless all expense paid trips all over the country, and they are calling us greedy!

So the bottom line is: it is alright when 100 tribal members at general council meetings make million dollar decisions for the rest of us, but when all 5,000 tribal members get to vote we are called greedy!
