Sunday Morning News

Ph_453056 Jacoby Ellsbury, the Native American player from the Boston Red Sox,  got the Chevy Player of the Game in game three of the World Series. In last night's game he was the first rookie in sixty some years to get four hits in a World Series game. The World Series started on Wednesday and it is surprising none of the Native American newspapers covered Jacoby Ellsbury from the Navajo Nation being in the World Series...?

Go Red Sox sweep them in four games...!

A big payday and other news...!

Woman wins a cool million at Forest County Potawatomi bingo hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin A few years ago I won 600 dollars playing bingo at the Treasure Island bingo hall. And I thought that was a good haul...!

Jammie Thomas, the Ojibwe girl from Brainerd, Minnesota, who lost a $222,000 judgment for downloading songs, made it in the latest issue of Rolling Stone. I knew she would make it to them pages...!

Ph_453056 And then if you have been watching the World Series on the tube, the Boston Red Sox has, Jacoby Ellsbury, a Native American (Navajo) playing out in Centerfield. Go Red Sox!

Ojibwe mother first to go to trial for music sharing

Ojibwe mother first to go to trial for music sharing

Ojibwe" A Native woman from Minnesota is the first person to go to trial for allegedly sharing copyrighted music on the Internet.

Jammie Thomas, 30, works for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians. Record companies accuse the single mother of two of sharing over 1,700 songs online. "I did not download or upload any music, period," Thomas told The Minneapolis Star Tribune outside the federal courthouse in Duluth. Many people who have been sued by the recording  industry have settled their cases with financial payments. The companies say Thomas, who goes by the name "Tereastarr"  [Myspace | Blog],  could owe as much as $4 million in fines for sharing copyrighted music."

Update: Jammie Thomas found guilty must pay $222,000 for sharing songs!

Air Native

Nike is coming out with the 'Air Native'   just for Native Americans. But the company said those Black Cherokees that have been kicked out of the Cherokee tribe, those Pechanga out in California that have recently been dis-enrolled because of per capita issues, those Iroquois that had their homes bull dozed awhile back, AND especially that Potawatomi guy with that one blog who is always writing about his tribal council not going to work, those people need not apply for these special native shoes!

Judge: Bloggers Entitled to Immunity under Communications Act

Judge: Bloggers Entitled to Immunity Under Communications Act

"Bloggers cannot be hit with libel suits on the basis of anonymous postings on their Web sites because federal law grants them immunity by explicitly stating that they cannot be treated as the "publisher" of such comments, a federal judge has ruled."

Well, I feel better! So keep sending in them anonymous comments (Or 'Name Withheld' as the tribal paper puts it!) if you are afraid of the bullies on the rez. eh!
